Video Comp. & Cont.

The two videos on Ted.com by Seth Godin & Clay Shirky have many contrast and some comparisons that make them stand out from each other. They both have the concept that “the internet brings people together & makes connections”, but explains, talks, and refers to it in many different ways. Both believe that the fast paste of the internet gets people together and spreads news and ideas faster than television and all other sources. They have similar presentations by both using big screens, pictures, and having a huge audience of people listening to them.
These two videos have many differences that makes one more powerful and one more interesting. Both have the same idea, but different takes on the way the internet is used. Seth Godin’s presentation was about the power to create movements (tribes) through the internet and to specify a group of people with your ideas and build on it. Clay Shirky’s presentation was about the history of the media, the uses of the internet, and how the internet is good in some ways, but not others. Godin’s basics of his presentation was funny with no detail, while Shirky’s basics were not funny, but had more specifics and great detail. Godin’s idea of the way the internet could be used is to make connections and make change in the world just by making those connections and using the internet to do it in other cities. Shirky’s idea is that media has changed about five times in the last five hundred years or so and by this media is being shared more quickly and easily through the internet. He also explains the many ways that the internet is not good by things being spread falsely and China wanting to shutdown the internet. They both and we all could agree that the internet is becoming a meta-media and the internet is becoming the way that people communicate and get news and ideas spread faster. People are becoming more and more reliable on the internet and both Godin & Shirky believe we should learn to use this source of media in a good/positive way.

Computer Life of Miss Moe

When seeing my screen as a photo for the first time, I thought, " Wow, how is this possible? How could I have not known of this feature as much as I am constantly on the computer?". This was something new and interesting to me. When I asked some friends had they ever heard of this feature they said no, so I wonder how many people actually know of this.

This screenshot photo shows the two most typical things that I do when on the computer, while classes are in session. Most times I always have FaceBook and Yahoo IM open to chat with friends, listening to music, and the most important doing whatever work needs to be done. Rather than just getting on the computer and doing the work I originally set-out to do, I have other distractions open.

The digital world/space can be very distracting for young teens and adults because of all the possible things to do and distractions that are available. The digital world is improving day by day and is always giving people ways to be distracted. This takes away from the time and progress that should have been made in about 30 minutes.

We can better understand the process of digital space by using it wisely and when needed. When using a computer and your mission is to get work done don't have 4 windows open that have nothing to do with your work. Most college students, like myself, have unnecessary windows open and get easily distracted ,which makes it harder to understand the process of using digital space wisely.
